[Updated] Police: West Hartford Mother Used 10-Year-Old Daughter to Shoplift

Sereisopheak Preap, 30, faces several charges.

A West Hartford woman is facing several charges after allegedly using her 10-year-old daughter to shoplift at Lord & Taylor at the Westfarms mall on Saturday, according to Farmington police.

Sereisopheak Preap, 30, of 1451 Boulevard Ave., was charged with fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and risk of injury to a minor.

Preap allegedly was shoplifting jewelry and clothing from the department store, removing the tags and putting the stolen items on her 10-year-old daughter, according to Lt. Colin Ryan.

Preap also had with her 2-year-old toddler in a stroller; the mother allegedly also placed shoplifted items in the stroller, Ryan said.

The 10-year-old was not charged, but the state Department of Children and Families was called to the scene as well, Ryan said. The children were turned over to the father, Ryan said.

Bond was set at $5,000. Preap is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Aug. 13.
