Property Damage Allegedly Caused by Drunk Driver

Glastonbury man is accused of rear-ending a vehicle in West Hartford Center, then carving a 1.5-mile path over curbs, around trees and across lawns and flower beds.

A 25-year-old Glastonbury man accused of striking a parked car and carving a one-and-a-half mile path of property damage from West Hartford Center to Fox Meadow Lane was scheduled to be arraigned June 2 in Hartford Superior Court on multiple charges, including DUI, said.

Thomas S. Curran of 441 Foote Road in Glastonbury was arrested at 2:15 a.m. Saturday after police followed a trail of debris to 1 Fox Meadow Lane, police said. Curran’s 2007 black Chevrolet Silverado was parked in the driveway with two flat tires and heavy front-end damage, police said.

Curran was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibility, interfering with an officer and criminal mischief, police said.

After allegedly drinking at a West Hartford Center bar, police said Curran was driving as the Silverado damaged nine properties along Brunswick Avenue, Fern Street, North Main Street, Craigmoor Road and Fox Meadow Lane.

Pieces of the Silverado, including a wheel well, were recovered along the route, starting at 146 Brunswick Ave., where Curran allegedly rear-ended a 1999 Honda CRV, police said.

From there, police said Curran’s Silverado hopped multiple curbs, flattening the left side tires, and hit a tree near the intersection of North Main and Fern streets. Curran veered across eight lawns and several flower beds and collided with a wooden fence at a home on Craigmoor Road, police said.

Police said Curran was driving in the center of Fern Street and in the southbound lane going north on North Main Street.

No injuries were reported.

Police became involved at around 1:45 a.m. after receiving the first of several complaints of a vehicle with flat tires driving across lawns.

Curran was released early Saturday after posting $2,500 bail. He refused a blood-alcohol test, police said.

When questioned at 1 Fox Meadow Lane, police said Curran denied driving the Silverado. He also said “Take me to court,” police said.
