Regional Police Roundup: Bomb Threat Goes Bust

A man tried to get out of a court appearance with a bomb threat, but ended up calling the wrong court, police said.

Off-Target Bomb Threat


The case: A New London man was charged with second-degree harassment, threatening and breach of peace after the accused claimed he was going to bring an explosive device to the G.A. 10 Court in New London, according to police.


The twist: The accused was scheduled to appear Monday in a different New London courthouse than the one he threatened, police said. The bomb threat came in for the incorrect courthouse shortly before the man’s appearance for a violation of probation charge, according to police. 

Curbside Charges

The case: Two Hartford men are facing charges of possession of narcotics and breach of peace, according to police.

The twist: The men were charged after trying to pick up a sofa left on the West Hartford curb, police said. When the men asked the homeowner about the couch, the homeowner notified police, since he believed the accused were acting strangely and thought they may try to break into his house, police report. Officers found narcotics on both of the accused during the investigation, according to police.

A Prescription for Trouble

The case: Police charged a Waterbury man with illegal attempt to obtain a controlled substance, second-degree forgery, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit and driving without a license, police report.

The twist: The accused led police on a chase after trying to use a forged prescription at a drive-through CVS pharmacy in Cheshire, police said. After the pharmacist called the police, the man tried to flee, but ended up crashing into a telephone pole in Wallingford, according to police. His injuries were not life threatening, according to police.

John Doe and Friends

The case: West Hartford police charged a man with 91 counts of second-degree forgery, 19 counts of third-degree forgery, sale/use/possession of fireworks and as a fugitive from justice, police report.

The twist: Police found 91 fake IDs, 19 forged checks and illegal fireworks in the man’s possession during a motor vehicle stop, police said.

Mistaken Identity Leads to Football Fisticuffs

The case: West Hartford police charged three men with third-degree assault, breach of peace and third-degree criminal mischief after a fight broke out at the Gold Roc Diner, police said.

The twist: The fight began after a man went over to another diner and said, “Hey, Aaron Hernandez,” police report. Two of the accused involved in the fight claimed they were sitting with DJ Hernandez, brother to the former Patriots tight end, although West Hartford police said they had no proof that DJ Hernandez was present at the fight. Multiple people were injured during the brawl, according to police.
