The two men, suspects in a shooting on Farmington Ave. in Hartford, allegedly crashed a Dodge Charger onto a Ridgewood Rd. lawn while fleeing from police.

Two Hartford men, suspects in a Farmington Ave. shooting, were taken into custody early Sunday morning after they were found hiding in a wooded area near I-84 in West Hartford, police said.

According to West Hartford Police, notification was received at 3:09 a.m. Sunday that Hartford Police and Connecticut State Police were pursuing a silver vehicle involved in a shooting in Hartford. According to the report, the vehicle, which had a partial registration of "331," was headed westbound on I-84.

Units from West Hartford Police were positioned at all of the I-84 exit ramps, the report states. A silver Dodge Charger was seen by one officer exiting at South Main St., exit 41, and immediately reentering I-84 west, police said.

The same vehicle was soon located by another West Hartford officer, according to the report, just off the next exit of I-84 west. Police said the vehicle had crashed onto a lawn on Ridgewood Rd.

A perimeter was established, police said, and one officer reported having seen two men duck behind a house on Mildred Rd., near Beechwood Rd. According to the report, West Hartford, Hartford and State Police flooded the area.

The two suspects, Ricardo Colon, 29, and Raul Velilla, 23, both of 42 Mountford St., Hartford, were found in the wooded area between I-84 and Mildred Rd. and taken into custody.

Both were turned over to the Hartford Police Shooting task force and face multiple charges, the Hartford Courant reported.

Colon, who police said was the driver of the vehicle, a 2012 Silver Dodge Charger with New Hampshire registration 3317605 that had been rented from Enterprise in Hartford, was also issued a summons in West Hartford for evading responsibility.

Police said the gun was recovered at the scene of the shooting in Hartford.
