Video Camera Found in Bishop's Corner Starbucks Bathroom

A 51-year-old Hartford man is charged with 12 counts of voyeurism and is suspected of similar incidents in town, police say.

A Hartford man who allegedly concealed a miniature camera in a bathroom at a local Starbucks was charged Tuesday with 12 counts of voyeurism, said.

A manager for the at 2475 Albany Ave. in Bishops Corner alerted police July 28 after a patron found a video camera in the men’s bathroom. Capt. Joseph LaSata said the camera was about the size of pack of chewing gum and was taped beneath a sink.

LaSata said an investigation identified 12 victims from images on the camera.

Paul Deveau, 51, of 100 Whitney St. in Hartford's West End neighborhood was taken into custody at 10 a.m. and held on a $100,000 bond, LaSata said. Deveau was expected to post bail and appear Wednesday in Hartford Superior Court. Voyeurism is a Class D felony.

Detectives also seized several computers and electronic devices to store data from Deveau. The ongoing investigation indicated Deveau may be connected to similar incidents in local men’s bathrooms, LaSata said.

“It’s been going on for some time based on the volume of the images that were recovered,” LaSata said.

When questioned, LaSata said Deveau acknowledged involvement in the Starbucks incident. Additional charges were expected.

Deveau was described as a regular Starbucks customer with no other connection to the store. He has no prior arrests in West Hartford, LaSata said, and no record of convictions in Connecticut, according to court records.
