West Hartford Man Charged after Police Find More than 37 Pounds of Marijuana

Drugs were found in two large suitcases after State Police stopped William J. Servos for speeding.

A West Hartford man who was stopped by State Police from Troop A in Southbury for speeding on Monday now faces drug as well as traffic charges.

William J. Servos, 28, of 158 Newington Rd., was spotted by State Police Trooper Cassavechia on I-84 eastbound near exit 2 driving 82 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone in a 2012 Ford Focus, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police report that after they began pursuit, the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 85 m.p.h. before the Cassavechia was able to pull it over on Route 7 southbound near the Danbury Mall.

According to the State Police report, Trooper Cassavechia "approached the vehicle and detected the obvious odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle." Police said the initial search revealed a small amount of marijuana in a bag on the floor, but a continued search revealed two large suitcases which contained a total of 37.6 pounds of marijuana.

Servos has been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana greater than 1 kilo, possession of drug paraphernalia, and reckless driving.

He is free on $50,000 bond, and scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Danbury on Oct. 1.
