West Hartford Man Dies in Accident Sunday

Hans Shafer, 79, of West Hartford, was pronounced dead at the scene in Bloomfield.

A 79-year-old West Hartford man died in a two-vehicle accident on Hall Boulevard in Bloomfield early Sunday morning, according to a Bloomfield police spokesperson.

When police arrived at the accident around 6 a.m., they found Hans Shafer “slumped over/pinned near the passenger’s side front seat” of his Honda Accord and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bloomfield Police Capt. Stephen Hajdasz.

The Honda, according to Hajdasz, was traveling southbound and appeared to have crossed into the northbound lane when it collided into a Ford Explorer, which had been traveling northbound on Hall Boulevard.
