West Hartford Police Apprehend Car Burglary Suspect Driving Stolen Vehicle

Police responded to the report of an 'active car burglary' Tuesday night on Bonny View Rd.

A Hartford man has been arrested and charged in connection with several West Hartford car burglaries after a witness reported seeing him involved in an "active burglary" Tuesday night, police said.

West Hartford Police were dispatched to 52 Bonny View Rd. at approximately 7:53 p.m. Tuesday, based on the report of a Hispanic male attempting to throw a rock through a car window. A GPS unit was on the dashboard, police said.

According to police, the rock bounced off the window and the suspect then left in a gray Honda Civic.

Police located the vehicle less than a mile away, headed northbound on Glenbrook Rd. at Park Rd. Police determined that the vehicle was stolen earlier in the evening from 159 Beacon St. in Hartford.

The driver, Marvin Dejesus-Santiago, 21, of 195 Sigourney St., Hartford, was taken into custody by West Hartford Police. According to police, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a "shaved Honda key" were also found inside the vehicle.

According to police, in an interview with detectives Dejesus-Santiago confessed to the attempted burglary on Bonny View, and also admitted to another car burglary at 12 Bramley Rd. in which a GPS was stolen.

The stolen vehicle has been returned to its owner, police said.

Dejesus-Santiago has been charged with third-degree larceny, possession of burglary tools, criminal attempt at third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than 1/2 oz. of marijuana. He is being held on $25,000 surety bond.
