The West Hartford Police Department will conduct a seat belt and child safety seat checkpoint on Saturday at New Britain Avenue and Ridgewood Road, near West Farms Mall.

The check, part of the statewide Click it or Ticket campaign, will begin at 9 a.m.

Original story:

The will join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates all across the country for the 2012 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, May 21-June 3, 2012.

During the mobilization, officers will be cracking down on motorists who fail to wear their seat belt. Seat belt use has saved thousands of lives across the United States.

West Hartford police officers will be conducting checks of motorists for seat belt use over that two week period. The check will be conducted through checkpoints and through moving patrols.

A recent check of motorists in West Hartford has shown seat belt use is 92 percent. Of course we would like to keep working until there is a 100 percent use by all.

We will be out in force to remind drivers and occupants to always wear their seat belts – both day and night.

Remember this May 21 to June 3: It’s Click It or Ticket. Buckle up and encourage your loved ones to do the same. You’ll save the cost of a ticket and may even save a life.
