West Hartford Police Believe Chesterfield Lane Home Invasion Was Drug-Related

Following an investigation, West Hartford Police have determined that the Jan. 2 home invasion on Chesterfield Lane not random.

West Hartford Police have completed their investigation of the Jan. 2 home invasion at 6 Chesterfield Lane and have determined that it was drug-related and not a random act, Capt. Donald Melanson said Friday.

According to police, the home invasion was reported at 1:15 a.m., and there were three individuals in the home at the time. The nearly 6,000 square foot home just off Albany Ave. is owned by former insurance broker and philanthropist Marc Abrahms, who was not present when the incident occurred.

A police report indicated that the three individuals who were in the residence locked themselves in separate rooms before contacting police.

Zachary Abrahms and Simon Abrahms, sons of the homeowner, were two of the individuals who were home at the time of the invasion. Both have subsequently turned themselves in to police and have been arrested on drug-related charges.

Zachary Abrahms, 25, turned himself in to West Hartford Police on charges of  illegal possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,500.

Simon Abrahms, 23, was charged on May 10 with llegal manufacture/distribution/sale of prescription, illegal possession hallucigen, manufacture/sale/administering of restricted drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia in factory situation. His bond was originally set at $50,000.

"There was a very distinct odor of marijuana in the house" [when police were called to investigate the home invasion], Melanson said. He said some marijuana was also in plain view.

Melanson said that a large amount of cash and marijuana were seized from the scene.

"The victims have not provided any information about who the suspects are," Melanson said. Police report that the remainder of the investigation is "defunct" and will not be continued.

Police determined that the only item stolen from the home was a safe, and they do not believe it contained anything of value.
