A West Hartford man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly burglarized a home and subsequently pushed and spat at police officers on Sunday morning.
Samatar Elmi, 19, of 420 Bloomfield Ave., was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree burglary, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, fifth-degree larceny and refusing to be fingerprinted.
Elmi’s charges stem from an an incident in which West Hartford police officers responded to a burglary call of a home in the 300 block of Bloomfield Avenue just after 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning, according to police.
The police report states the following:
The complainants stated that they were woken up by the sound of their air conditioner being pushed in a rear window, according to police.They further noticed that a window screen had been raised, a patio chair and a potted plant had been knocked over and items were stolen from the garage.
A police K-9 immediately began tracking and footprints in the wet grass were noticed along the K-9’s track route. The K-9 track and footprints led directly to a set of discarded stolen property on the curtilage of 416 Bloomfield Ave. and then to the front door of 420 Bloomfield Ave. There officers made contact with Elmi, who was intoxicated, belligerent and uncooperative.During the course of the investigation Elmi pushed an officer and spat bloody saliva on two officers.
