West Hartford Police: Cell Phone Thief Outed as Victim Trails Woman Across Town Lines

A Bristol woman is facing several charges after she allegedly stole a cell phone and subsequently struck the victim with her vehicle’s side-view mirror after she was followed into West Hartford on Monday, according to police.

Becky Sue Ziegler, 34, of Bristol, was charged with evading responsibility, operating a motor vehicle while registration or license was suspended or revoked, fifth-degree larceny and reckless driving.

Police said that Ziegler was driving a vehicle after “stealing someone’s cell phone in Bristol. The victim followed her ... to West Hartford.”

Ziegler, according to police, returned the cell phone, but sped away in her vehicle, striking the victim with her side-view mirror.

She was released on a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Jan. 22.
