West Hartford Police Charge Two Suspected of Car Break-In

West Hartford police on Tuesday morning charged two people for allegedly attempting to burglarize a motor vehicle on Thomson Road.

David Decaprio, 36, and Seejla Hodzic, 26, both of Middlefield, were charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, criminal attempt at third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

DeCaprio was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.  

According to a press release, police at 1:13 a.m. Tuesday responded to a call that a vehicle had stopped in front of a resident’s home and that an occupant of the vehicle attempted to burglarize the vehicle.

The resident was able to get a partial license plate number and a description of the suspect, the release states.

“West Hartford units flooded the area but did not immediately locate the vehicle,” said Lt. Frank Fallon in the press release.

But, a short time later, police located the suspicious vehicle in the area of South Main Street at Burr Street, about a half a mile from Thomson Road.  

Decaprio was held on a $25,000 bond, and Hodzic was held on a $15,000 bond.

The West Hartford Police Department continues to request help from the public in reducing these types of crimes. The public can help reduce their chances of being a victim by ensuring they lock their homes and vehicles when left unattended, take your  valuables out of vehicles and do not leave other valuables in plain sight while unattended. Also, watch out for your neighbor’s homes and vehicles when they are not around.

The West Hartford Police would like to again this week thank and emphasize the key role that an alert citizen played in the apprehension of these burglary suspects. By contacting the police in a timely manner, West Hartford Police units were able to respond, capture the suspects and recover stolen property.
