Accident took place in the Elmwood section of town on Wednesday afternoon.

A West Hartford police officer was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the Elmwood section of town on Wednesday, according to the town manager.

Officer Stacy Thomas was driving his cruiser in the center of Elmwood when a car pulled in front of him, according to Town Manager Ron Van Winkle.

Thomas swerved to avoid hitting the car, but drove his cruiser through a sign and a cast iron fence at the corner of Cambridge and New Britain Avenue, Van Winkle said.
