West Hartford police have identified a man suspected in the carjacking that took place at the Elmwood Community Center on Wednesday afternoon, according to media reports.
The Hartford Courant and NBC Connecticut have reported that police are seeking Alexander “Ace” Diaz, 22, of Hartford, in connection with the carjacking.
Diaz allegedly took the keys from an elderly man at the Elmwood Community Center and drove off in the victim’s 2003 Toyota Camry. The victim was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The Camry was subsequently located in Hartford by West Hartford detectives, police said. The West Hartford detectives and Hartford police attempted to stop the car, when it "rammed both police vehicles," a police report states.
After a brief chase, the Camry crashed into a fence near Broad and Lincoln streets, police said.
Diaz eluded officers during a foot chase. West Hartford detectives are continuing their investigation.
NBC Connecticut said that police "describe Diaz as 5-feet-9 and weighing 175 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair."
Anyone with information Diaz is asked to call police at (860) 523-2070.
