West Hartford Police: Suspected Car Burglar Apprehended

After a foot chase, West Hartford Police tasered and apprehended one of two men who fled the scene of a car burglary.

West Hartford Police apprehended one of two men who fled the scene of a car burglary at 748 South Quaker Lane following a foot chase early Tuesday morning.

Samuel Diaz, 19, of 28 Dorothy St., 1st Floor, Hartford, was tasered and taken into custody after resisting arrest by West Hartford Police.

Police said they were dispatched on a report of a male breaking into cars on South Quaker Lane in the area of Nutmeg Court. Upon arrival, police said, they located one male exiting a Mercedes on Ginger Dr. According to police, when they approached that man, he took off running.

Another man, who was hiding behind some trees, also fled according to police. Police were able to catch the second man after a foot chase. The man, later identified as Samuel Diaz, resisted arrest and police said they used a Taser to take him into custody.

According to police, a search indicated that there had been multiple car burglaries in the area of Fenwood Ave. and Almeda Ave.

As many as 13 cars had been broken into, police said, which could result in Diaz being faced with additional charges.

Diaz has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, three counts of criminal attempt to commit burglary, sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer. He is being held on $20,000 surety bond.
