CT Upgrading Pedestrian Features at Traffic Signals

West Hartford intersections at Routes 44 and 529 to see upgrades.

Upgrades to Pedestrian Control Features at Traffic Control Signals in Various Central Connecticut Towns 

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to upgrade pedestrian control features at 16 existing state-maintained traffic control signals to include countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pedestrian signals and detectors in the cities/towns of Berlin, East Hartford, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown, Rocky Hill, Vernon, West Hartford and Wethersfield. The following intersections are included:

  1. Berlin – Route 372 (Mill Street) at Webster Square Road (Int. No. 007-226)
  2. East Hartford – Route 517 (Main Street) at Lilac St. and Drive to Coca Cola (Int. No. 042-228)
  3. Hartford – Route 44 (Albany Avenue) at Green Street and Williams Street (Int. No. 063-277)
  4. Manchester – Route 6/44 (East Center Street) at Summit St. and Drive to Professional Building (Int. No. 076-224)
  5. Manchester – Route 6/44 (East Center Street) at Spruce Street (Int. No. 076-236)
  6. Manchester – Route 6/44 (Middle Turnpike East) at Vernon Street and Riverside Drive (Int. No. 076-245)
  7. Manchester – Route 502 (Spencer Street) at Hillstown Road (Int. No. 076-246)

It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.

The design plans for the project are expected to be completed in August 2014 with a tentative advertising date for construction of October 2014.
