Bringing Elections into the 21st Century

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill will make a presentation to the public and members of the League of Women Voters in the greater Hartford area on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The topic is: Bringing Connecticut’s Elections into the 21st Century.  In her role as State’s election officer, Denise Merrill is committed to supporting and expanding democratic participation, ensuring that every citizen’s rights and privileges are protected and that every vote is counted accurately. She will discuss ways of improving technology, developing additional efficiency, and cutting costs for towns across the state. A member of the League of Women Voters will serve as moderator of a question and answer period.  The public will be invited to submit written questions.

The presentation fits into the mission of The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, which encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Membership in the League is open to men and women of all ages. With 92 years of experience and 800 local and state affiliates, the League is one of America’s most trusted grassroots organizations.
