Halloween Postponed Until Saturday; Schools Closed Tuesday and Wednesday

The following is the latest information from West Hartford's Emergency Operations Center:

First, at this time we regret that we do not have an estimate from CL&P as to when the power will be restored. Power lines remain to be down around town.  Consider them to be live.

Second, we are asking that residents postpone Halloween trick or treating until at least Saturday, November 5 due to the continued existence of downed power lines across sidewalks and roadways. We will update you further during the week as to whether it will be safe enough to proceed with trick or treating on Saturday.

Next, will be closed on Tuesday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 2.

Lastly, two warming centers are open, one at and the other at . A warming center is a place you can go to temporarily warm up and charge a phone.

Elmwood Community Center continues as our emergency shelter. If you need to take refuge there for the night, please bring a sleeping bag or bedding, a change of clothes, medicine, and a towel. Space is limited and people will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
