Mark Zydanowicz To Be Appointed To Board of Education

The West Hartford Republican Town Committee has nominated Mark Zydanowicz to complete Ellen Brassil's term.

On Nov. 1, 2012, the West Hartford Republican Town Committee nominated Mark Zydanowicz (R) to fill the vacancy on the West Hartford Board of Education left by the resignation of Ellen Brassil (R). He is expected to be appointed by the Board of Education at its next meeting on November 7, 2012.

Mark Zydanowicz has lived in West Hartford for more than 14 years with his wife Nella and their three children, who all attend West Hartford Public Schools.

Mark graduated from Central Connecticut State University and is now the Marketing Manager at Guida’s Dairy in New Britain. Mark is an Army Engineer Officer and currently holds the rank of Major. He is the Operations Officer for 192nd Multi Functional Engineer Battalion and serves as the principle staff officer for all matters concerning plans, operations, training, and force development and modernization for over 500 soldiers.

This past week, Mark was deployed to the Southern Connecticut shore to lead his battalion’s disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve the residents of West Hartford on the Board of Education. I know I have huge shoes to fill in replacing Ellen, but will do my best to continue right where she left off. I promise to put the interests and concerns of students and parents above all else and will fight to maintain our neighborhood school system. I will work hard to make sure our children receive the best education possible no matter which neighborhood they live in and that parents’ concerns are heard and responded to quickly and appropriately,” stated Zydanowicz.

“Mark is a hard worker, cares deeply about West Hartford and its neighborhood school system and will no doubt be an asset to the Board of Education,” stated Libby Spinella, member of the Board of Education, “Ellen and I know Mark will do a great job and truly appreciate him taking time away from family and work to fill this seat.”

“We all know Ellen left West Hartford schools in a better place than when she joined the Board of Education. But, there is much more to do. Mark is a leader and I have no doubt that he will drive positive change on the Board by making sure our kids are getting a top notch education in their neighborhood schools and that the administration and teachers are addressing parent and student concerns,” stated Peter J. Martin, chairman of the Republican Town Committee.
