Meet Some of the Occupiers of Hartford

A diverse group of protesters and volunteers have converged at Asylum Avenue Green as part of the "Occupy Hartford" movement, an offshoot of the month-long "Occupy Wall St." protests in New York City.

On a day when the Hartford Marathon closed off many of the streets in downtown Hartford, the dedicated protesters of the "Occupy Hartford" movement continued their demonstrations, now into their second week.

Some dozen or more tents covered the small expanse of green in the center of the city, and the protesters were calm but in good spirits as the wind whipped through their camp.

Representing a wide range of ages and backgrounds, the unifying theme of the demonstrators was a dissatisfaction with the current socio-economic system and the hope of continued expansion of the movement nationwide.

Several signs cited the need for solidarity among the "99%," a reaction against the banks, financial system, and the super-wealthy.

The protesters acknowledged the support of the city government and officials and reported no troubles with the authorities.
