More Than 200 Attend West Hartford Public Works Open House

More than 2,000 lbs of paper was shredded and collected for recycling.

Written by Director of Public Works John Phillips

Saturday was a great day at West Hartford Public Works.

To celebrate the National Public Works Week, WHDPW open its doors to over 200 West Hartford families. It was a great turn out for just our second year.

My goal is to work outside of the normal and call attention to the importance of Public Works within community life. WHDPW is full of highly skilled professionals and they deserve the attention and recognition.

Over the last two years several major events have affected our community. However,  with the hard work and dedication of the men and women who make up WHDPW – on a beautiful Saturday with a number of community events happening – you would never know that this community has been battered by some of mother nature’s worst.

“Because of Public Works” is this year’s awareness message. When you think of our parks system, urban forest, roads, public utilities, building, refuse, recycling and damaging storms ... "Because of Public Works" is an excellent theme to express the importance of a highly trained, skilled, and dedicated workforce.

The residents of West Hartford are fortunate to have a team full of professionals that care what we do. Every day motived to provide value to the community we serve.

It is my honor to lead WHDPW and proudly talk about who we are and where we need to go in the future.

Thank you to all of the families that stopped by our facility to see our equipment displayed and meet the DPW professionals.

Also a quick thank you for those who used the free shredding services. We collected over 2,000 lbs of paper for recycling.
