New Lotto Offers $1,000 a Day for Life

Connecticut joins a consortium of other states to offer the prize. But with more states, the odds of winning are minimal.

Connecticut teamed up with the rest of New England to up the ante with its latest prize. “Lucky for Life,” which began on Sunday, offers $1,000 a day for life to winners.

The odds of winning are approximately one in 175 million.

According to the Associated Press, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation navigated tricky laws in the New England states of Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine to offer the new prize.

"The smaller states can't deliver a prize this big to their players, so it required a collaboration."

In the 2011 fiscal year, the Connecticut Lottery had its most lucrative year ever with more than . Approximately $289 million was given to the state’s general fund.
