Public Informational Meeting Scheduled for Proposed Park Road/I-84 Improvements

Meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 at West Hartford Town Hall.

The following is a press release from the Town of West Hartford

The Town of West Hartford will hold a public information meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 400 at the West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St., regarding the reconfiguration of the I-84 on and off ramps at Park Road.

The project, currently in concept stage, is being designed by the town's Engineering Division as part of the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The reconfiguration of the interchange at Park Road /I-84 is aimed at improving vehicular capacity, efficiency and safety.  The project involves the relocation of the Interstate 84 off-ramp about 200 feet to make it adjacent with the existing on-ramp in order to improve traffic flow on and off the highway. An additional left turn lane will be added to the off ramp; Park Road will be widened on the south side to create an additional travel lane; and left turn lanes will be established at many of the intersection approaches.

Based upon the conceptual design, the construction costs for the project are estimated to be $4.6 million. It is anticipated that the Federal Highway Administration will provide 80 percent of the cost ($3,670,000) with the State and Town of West Hartford each providing 10 percent ($459,000). Construction is expected to begin in 2017 and be completed within 36 months.
