Several West Hartford Establishments Identified for Allegedly Selling Liquor to Minors

Department of Consumer Protection Liquor Division and West Hartford Police Department conducted compliance checks of eight local establishments, and three allegedly failed the test.

Three of the eight West Hartford establishments tested for compliance with the state's liquor control regulations allegedly failed a recent check by selling alcoholic beverages to minors.

According to information released Tuesday, the Department of Consumer Protection partnered with the and two trained youth volunteers to attempt to purchase liquor at several local businesses. The youths were trained by the Governor's Prevention Partnership.

The compliance check was conducted between 6 p.m. and midnight on Friday, Sept. 16. According to the Department of Consumer Protection, the youths entered the establishments and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. The youths were allegedly able to purchase liquor in three of the eight tested establishments.

“The Department of Consumer Protection takes seriously its goal to reduce youth access to alcoholic liquor,” Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said Tuesday in a release. “Permittees need to take all necessary measures in their establishments to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors. Reducing youth access to alcohol helps to prevent needless tragedies.”

The following are the businesses that allegedly failed the compliance check. They may face administrative action by the Liquor Control Commission, according to the Department of Consumer Protection.
