Special Election in 20th District Today

Democrat Joseph Verrengia and Republican Allen Hoffman vie for the open seat.

West Hartford will hold a special election today for the 20th District General Assembly seat vacated by David McCluskey, who was apointed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to the state Board of Pardons and Paroles.

The Democrat vying for the seat is Joseph Verrengia, 46, a member of the Town Council. The Republican is Allen Hoffman, 68, who held the seat in 1995-1996.

Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the following polling places: , , , , and . Only voters in District 20 are eligible to cast votes in the special election.

The town offers this information for voters at Charter Oak School (District 4, Precinct 2): "The polling place is located in the school gymnasium on the Sidney St. side of the building.  Improved access for voters with disabilities is provided at designated reserved parking on Sidney Street, rather than in the less accessible school parking lot off Flatbush Avenue.  This is for people whose vehicles have state issued permits for motor vehicle operators with disabilities."
