West Hartford Delegate Focuses on RNC, Not Isaac

Delegates from Conneticut and North Dakota are receiving a warm Florida welcome, complete with patriotic sand scultpures at in Treasure Island.

With temperatues in the 80s on Sunday and a glistening white beach, many have been taking in the sights, snapping photos and meeting other delegations as people continue to funnel in.

"People are asking why we're here, because there's an influx of people, it's a fantastic time, you can feel the excitement," said Mark Zydanowicz, of West Hartford, CT, Second Vice Chair of District 1.

"We just want to thank the people of Tampa, the hotel, staff here, everything's been great," said Conneticut GOP Congressional Coordinator Art Mocabee, of Bristol, CT.

While visitors are confident in the RNC contingency plans, they're keeping a close eye on Isaac's path and the schedule of events. RNC officials because of storm concerns.

However, the welcome party planned for Sunday night at the Tropicana Field was still on as scheduled.

"I'm not in the least bit concerned at the moment," Art Mocabee said.

Frank Klein with the North Dakota Delegation is taking everything in, including the possibility of experiencing a hurricane.

"We don't have hurricanes in North Dakota, (a) hurricane's a new experience. I don't have any idea of what to expect. I packed all clothes for 98 degrees with 90 percent humidity, and all that," Klein said.

Overall, delegates and alternates are looking forward to the week ahead, no matter what Mother Nature throws at the convention.
