West Hartford Police Officer Verrengia Promoted to Sergeant

Promotion becomes effective July 22.

The held a promotional ceremony at Town Hall on Thursday morning, July 19, officially announcing the promotion of Off. Joseph Verrengia to the rank of Sergeant.

The ceremony was attended by family and friends, as well as members of the police department.

The promtion becomes effective July 22, and Sgt. Verrengia will be assigned to the patrol division.

The following biography was provided in a release from the West Hartford Police Department:

"Off. Verrengia is a life-long resident of West Hartford. He was educated in West Hartford Public Schools, attending , , Talcott Juior High and . He also attended Northeastern University. Off. Verrengia was hired by WHPD in 1989 as a police officer and has served in Patrol, Traffic and the Community Relations Division. Off. Verrengia has been the recipient of several departmental awards and numerous letters of commendation."

Verrengia also served three terms on the West Hartford Town Council before leaving to assume the position of State Representative (D-20th, West Hartford) in February 2011.
