In the aftermath of Friday's horrific event at Newtown's Sandy Hook Elementary School, parents and community members everywhere are grieving and needing support. Many people in our community have personal connections to Newtown and have been particularly affected by this tragedy.
The Town of West Hartford has a strong culture of supporting its families and citizens in whatever way that it can. Since Friday, our schools have been vigilant in providing support to parents, staff and children.
Social service providers and mental health professionals in our town are offering a forum to bring residents together to reflect on current thoughts and feelings related to this experience. This is a meeting for adults only and will offer the opportunity to come together to process strategies for supporting parents and helping children cope with the after effects of this tragedy.
Parents of children of all ages, concerned neighbors, grandparents, caregivers, and local providers are all welcome and encouraged to attend. The forum will take place at West Hartford Town Hall Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m..
Geoff Genser, LCSW, Dan Weiner, LPC, Marc Lehman, LMFT, The Bridge Family Center and other providers will provide support and facilitate this forum.
