Top 10 Reasons to Love the West Hartford Public Libraries

The West Hartford Libraries are a great asset to this community, and there is really no reason not to have a library card. For anyone new to West Hartford, including newly arrived au pairs, the library offers an easy way to become involved in the West Hartford community.

There are, of course, many more than 10 reasons to love the West Hartford Libraries, but here are my personal top 10:

10. Books, of course! Love books, always have. Between the three branches (Noah Webster, Bishop's Corner and Faxon), you can find many of the latest titles soon after they are published.  Titles can be reserved from any of the branches to be picked up at the one closest to you. Librarians can also help with finding books available at other town libraries.

9. The librarians know their stuff! Many times I have arrived in search of a book with a vague title and part of the author’s name, and they have always come through for me! The librarians in the Teen and Children's departments have an extra boost of enthusiasm that is great to getting young ones to read!

8. Besides books, you can borrow DVD’s and blu rays of current movies and TV shows --  and they will include the bonus discs with all the fun stuff!

7. Free events - The library offers movie nights, author talks, family events, classes, and more!

6. Free Museum Passes through the Friends of the Library Museum Pass Program. Get free passes to local museums like the Mark Twain House, the Wadsworth Atheneum and the Mystic Aquarium!

5. Free Wi-fi and computer access.

4. Tech Therapy at the Main Branch every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. you can get help with all of your mobile devices and PC's.

3. The West Hartford Library Website.  I could do a top ten just for the website. This well organized site allows you to enjoy a a host of library perks without ever leaving your home! Just a few things you can do directly from the site are: download ebooks for your Kindle, Nook or Ipad.; access the Consumer Reports Database before your next big purchase; read current magazines (titles like Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stone, Us and many more); access online classes on over 500 subjects -- and that's just for starters!

2. You can "like" The West Hartford Libraries on Facebook  and stay up to date with library events, learn interesting facts about local history, and read literary quotes!

1. They have a great mascot in Little Noah Webster! He's even on Twitter!
