Both Thompson and Montanez, knows first-hand the devastating impact breast cancer can have on a family. Each of these students has watched a close family member battle this life threatening disease. United in solidarity, the entire school and faculty wore pink for one day instead of their regular uniform and donated one dollar each in support of Thompson’s and Montanez’s efforts to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Reflecting back on his family’s ordeal Thompson said, “I’m proud of my mom. She’s very strong. It was hard to watch what my mother went through but she made it! Working together I know students can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.”

“My grandmother’s doctors said she might not make it. But I know if we raise enough money for breast cancer research then someone else’s grandmother might have a chance to live. We just have to keep fighting for a cure,” Montanez passionately stated.

“The American Cancer Society applauds the students and faculty at Saint Brigid School for their support of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” said Caitlin Ouellette, Specialist for Community Events with the American Cancer Society. “Funds raised from Making Strides supports the free programs and services that the American Cancer Society offers women facing a breast cancer diagnosis.”

“These young men are remarkable! This was definitely personal for Evan and Tavian.  Sadly, we have all been touched by someone in our lives with cancer. I was inspired when they came to me with the idea for a “Pink Day” fundraiser at Saint Brigid,” stated Principal Shevon Hickey. “Although we had several dress down days this month, when our students recognize the meaning of others’ suffering; I think we need to recognize it and act upon it.”
