Saint Brigid Celebrates Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 Saint Brigid School (SBS) students had the privilege of listening to two distinguished guest speakers; the State of Connecticut's Department of Children and Families (DCF) Deputy Commissioner Reverend Michael C. Williams and SBS alum Brandon Frame '01.

In a deep baritone voice Reverend Williams implored to the students, "Use your voice and be heard or you risk losing your opportunities."

"Seeing all children reach their potential has always been very personal and important to me," stated Reverend Williams. "It is something that each of you has a responsibility to strive for every day you wake up."

Reverend Williams is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and a 25-year resident of Hartford, Connecticut. He is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University of Monroe, Louisiana; a graduate of University of Connecticut School of Social Work; a graduate of Trinity College of Vermont; and, a graduate of the University of Connecticut’s School of Business Executive Program in Managed Care.

Most recently, Reverend Williams was also the keynote speaker at the Martin Luther King celebration held at West Hartford's Town Hall.

Reflecting back on his years spent at St. Brigid, speaker Brandon Frame stated, "Some of my fondest memories are of my time spent right here at Saint Brigid School,"

"It's a great feeling seeing two of my teachers Miss Perkins and Miss Johnson. Sometimes they were tough but they always pushed me to do my best," stated Frame.

At the close of his speech Frame confidently said to an attentive audience a quote that Morehouse College impresses upon all their students, "Every man and woman was put on this earth to do something unique and something distinctive, if he or she does not do it; it will never be done."

He went onto say, "Each of you has a choice to make a difference in the world."

Saint Brigid alum Brandon Frame '01, holds a BA in business from the prestigious Morehouse College, and is a 2013 recipient of Hartford Business Journal's 40 Under Forty award. Frame also is a noted author, public speaker, successful entrepreneur as the principal partner in Final Frame; a men’s upscale fashion bow-tie company, and Director of Business Partnerships at High School, Inc. in Hartford.

Standing with Reverend Williams and Frame, Principal Shevon Hickey stated, "We celebrate the uniqueness of all our students. This is what makes Saint Brigid School so special for both the students and faculty. We are so grateful and absolutely honored to have not one but two distinguished speakers participate in our Black History Month program -  was just incredible."
