Saint Brigid School Raises Money

West Hartford –With only days left in the school year, Saint Brigid School’s students went into action to raise money for Oklahoma’s tornado victims.  Led by Saint Brigid School’s student council and the student body, they raised $400 for Oklahoma’s tornado victims. The students were inspired by their desire to give-back to people in need. The money was raised in one hour, just before their spring concert. The students, along with Principal Shevon Hickey and student council faculty advisor and fifth grade teacher, Jennifer Furlong, presented the Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross a check for $400 dollars, which was distributed to victims of the Oklahoma tornado disaster.

“Service is a very important part of our mission here at St. Brigid School. I am very pleased with the support our students received from everyone.  Special fundraisers like this showcase the character and principles that we have instilled in our students,” said Principal Shevon Hickey.

Student council faculty adviser and fifth-grade teacher, Jennifer Furlong stated, “They’re just amazing! The decision to help was borne out of a conversation about the catastrophic effects of the Oklahoma tornado. Within minutes students came up with a game plan and decided to put their concerns for the disaster victims into action.”
