Lost & Found: Exotic African Love Bird Owner Possibly Located

West Hartford Animal Control may possibly have located the African Love bird's owner. While driving into Saint Brigid School’s parking lot last Wednesday, July 10 around 8 a.m., St. Brigid School teacher Kimberly Holliman was surprised to see a colorful tropical bird walking along the pavement.  Holliman along with faculty member Jennifer Furlong, immediately contacted West Hartford Animal Control Supervisor Karen A. Jones for help. Upon closer inspection, it was identified as an African Love bird a member of the parrot species.

It was apparent the bird had escaped from a nearby home. Quickly, their efforts to catch the bird now perched up in a tree turned into a bird caper. Within minutes there was a bird rescue team on-site made up of SBS teachers, Officer Jones, and West Hartford based Errico landscapers, all were in hot pursuit to rescue the runaway African Love bird. Summer school is in session, so with great anticipation, St. Brigid students watched from classroom windows as the adventurous African Love bird caper unfolded.

Officer Jones with assistance from Errico landscapers hung a bird cage laden with water and a few berries in a nearby tree. By late Wednesday afternoon, the African Love bird was caught as it swooped down to eat several berries off the ground. “Thanks to all the publicity an individual has come forward that may be the owner," said Animal Control Supervisor Karen A. Jones.
