St. Brigid School’s Act of Kindness Christmas Tree

West Hartford - While many schools across Connecticut were closed for the first snowstorm of the 2013 winter season, West Hartford’s Saint Brigid School students were busy putting handmade Three Wise Men shaped paper ornaments on their school’s Act of Kindness  Christmas Tree.

Students were encouraged to write their random act of kindness on a Three Wise Men paper ornament and then place it on the tree. The goal of the Act of Kindness Christmas Tree is to encourage students to do random acts of kindness throughout the holiday season.

To help make the Act of Kindness Christmas Tree a reality, first-grade teacher Cara DeAngelis and her fiancé Mark Olesnevich, surprised the students by donating a live tree.

“Life is so precious. In memory of the Sandy Hook tragedy, this holiday season we want our students to understand that acts of kindness can even be simple yet meaningful gestures of courtesy,” commented Principal Shevon Hickey.

Standing in front of the Act of Kindness Christmas Tree, Hickey went on to say, “It’s just absolutely so adorable to read some of the things the students wrote. One of our younger students wrote on her ornament that she helped put her little sister’s shoes on today.”

“One of the older students wrote that they bring their elderly neighbors food and help them with grocery shopping. It doesn’t take a lot to make a difference you just have to care,” continued Hickey.
