Conard and Hall Sports Captains Gain Leadership Skills to Begin Season

Captains of spring sports teams at both Conard and Hall high schools met even before tryouts began to help develop strategies to make their teams' upcoming seasons successful in ways beyond winning and losing.

Conard captains met on March 7 and Hall captains met on March 12, all participating in a workshop focused on issues that athletes may encounter during the season. According to a news release from Athletic Director Betty Remigino-Knapp, the spring captains were provided with tools and strategies to use "to help ensure a successful spring season."

Remigino-Knapp said that captains participated in a lecture "emphasizing topics of team culture, commitment continuum, team building, hazing, drugs, and alcohol, and social media."

Several facilators at each school – captains who had been chosen in advance by Remigino-Knapp – led small group discussions with their peers and reported back to everyone else. All captains participated in a full team-building exercise – a "unified push-up."
