Conard's Lucas Muntz Named Academic All-American

The West Hartford junior who wrestles for Conard is one of 120 Academic All Americans from throughout the country.

junior wrestler Lucas Muntz was named a 2012 Academic All-American by the National High School Coaches Association on May 18.

Muntz is a three-time placewinner, including a state championship in 2011 at the Connecticut state wrestling championships. He has a career record to date of 120-14, and is coached by Chris Glowacki. Muntz has earned a 3.6 GPA and an SAT score of 1170.

This year marks the 19th year in which the NHSCA has honored those who triumph both in and out of the class room.

This year’s selection totals 120 Academic All Americans. These student athletes hail from 27 states and 1 European country. This year’s honorees excel in 10 different sports. The total breakdown is as follows: 7 Freshman, 24 Sophomores, 32 Juniors, and 57 Senior student athletes.

This year, Connecticut led the way with 24 Academic All Americans. Arizona followed with 18. Rounding out the top 3, Georgia came in with 10. These student athletes averaged a 3.77 GPA with 26 All Americans came in with a 4.0 GPA or better.

“The members of this year’s All-Academic Team define what it means to be a student-athlete today and we are extremely proud of honor these fine student athletes” NHSCA Executive Director Bob Ferraro Jr. said. “They are leaders both on the field and in the classroom, and the future leaders of tomorrow.”

All honored Academic All Americans will be recognized in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum.
