Beth El Temple Hosts Dr. Richard Freund for Special Shavuot Program “Where Did the Ten Commandments Come From?”

In celebration of Tikkun Leyl Shavuot 2011/5771, Dr. Richard Freund, Director of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford, will teach on the topic “Where Did the Ten Commandments Come From?” at Beth El Temple, West Hartford, Tuesday evening June 7th at 8:00 p.m.  Mincha and Festival Maariv will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Have you ever wondered, “What is the content of the Ten Commandments and are there other Ancient Near Eastern versions of the Ten Commandments?  What was in those “original” Ten Commandments that were broken – are the second set the same as the “original”? Where is Mount Sinai? Is Mount Horev equal to Mount Sinai?”  Dr. Freund and all attendees will be studying the Ten Commandments as they appear in both Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.  This Shavuot program is open to the entire community. Festive dairy refreshments will be served.  For more information, please call 860-233-9696.
