Discussing the Impact of Race and Gender Issues on the 2012 Election

With race and women’s rights being hot-button political issues this campaign season, the University of Hartford is hosting a talk on “Race, Gender and the 2012 Election” by Nadia Brown, assistant professor of political science and African-American studies at Saint Louis University, on Wednesday, April 4, at 4:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium at the Harry Jack Gray Center on the University of Hartford campus.

Following her presentation, additional commentaries will be provided by Bilal Dabir Sekou, associate professor of political science in the University of Hartford’s Hillyer College and a regular political commentator in Connecticut media outlets, and Karen Tejada, assistant professor of sociology in Hillyer College.

The event is sponsored by the University’s Hillyer College and is free and open to the public.

Both Brown (2009–2010) and Tejada (2008–2009) are former Jackie McLean Fellows at the University of Hartford. The fellowship, established at the University in 2007, is named for Jackie McLean, a world-renowned alto saxophonist, educator, composer and community activist who served on the faculty at the University of Hartford for 36 years. In 1968, he established the African American Music Department and later the Jazz Studies degree program at The Hartt School.
