“Extreme Craft” Artist Garth Johnson to Speak in Hartford Art School’s Auerbach Lecture Series

Garth Johnson, a studio artist, writer, and educator who is known for his blog, “Extreme Craft,” will present a lecture entitled “Extreme Craft?” as part of the Hartford Art School’s Auerbach Lecture Series on Monday, Sept. 24, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public, and is made possible by the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund.

            Johnson, who lives in Eureka, Calif., is a craft activist who explores craft’s influence and relevance in the 21st century. His weblog, Extreme Craft, is a “compendium of art masquerading as craft, craft masquerading as art, and craft extending its middle finger.” He recently served as guest editor for the summer 2012 issue of Studio Potter Magazine. His first book, 1,000 Ideas for Creative Reuse, is in stores now.
