Mandell JCC Gears up for Back to School with Dr. Youmans and CollegePrepExpress Teen Academic Wellness Workshops for Fall 2011

The Mandell JCC helps students prepare for school by offering Teen Academic Workshops run by Dr. Michael Youman, of CollegePrepExpress. The workshops will be introduced at an informational Family Kick-off Event on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT.

CollegePrepExpress is a company that helps students get into secondary schools, colleges, and graduate programs through academic support, standardized test preparation, and academic assistance. The program also helps students by sharing tips, tools, and practice strategies for succeeding throughout high school.

Two CollegePrepExpress workshops will be offered at the Mandell JCC this fall: Essential Study Skills and Mindfulness-Based Test-Anxiety Reduction. Essential Study Skills will be held on Tuesday evenings from September 27 through November 15, 2011, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The program will introduce study skills needed for academic success.

Mindfulness-Based Test-Anxiety Reduction will be offered twice. The first workshop will be held Wednesday nights from October 26 through November 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with  a second workshop scheduled on Tuesday nights from November 22 through December 13, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This program provides students with techniques to cope with stress in high-pressure academic situations.

An informational Family Kick-off Event for both Essential Study Skills and Mindfulness-Based Test-Anxiety Reduction workshops will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Mandell JCC from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dr. Michael Youman, the Program Coordinator, will outline and discuss the workshops being offered, give a brief demonstration, host a short Q&A session, and discuss pricing options.
