West Hartford, CT (May 1, 2012) –The Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford today announced that the annual Ner Tamid “Eternal Light” dinner will take place on June 3rd at the Marriott Hartford Downtown. The event will be attended by over 400 people, school parents, business leaders and philanthropists and will benefit the school’s scholarship fund. The evening will feature award-winning comedian, writer and producer Carol Leifer, a veteran on the standup circuit, writer and producer of Saturday Night Live, Seinfeld, and HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show. Leifer is currently touring across the country with Jerry Seinfeld. Recently, Leifer won a 2012 Writers Guild Award for her work on the Emmy Award-winning show Modern Family, and was one of the writers for the 2012 Academy Awards hosted by Billy Crystal

This year, West Hartford residents Barry and Carol Rosenberg, and Neil and Sharon Kochen and their families will be honored for their commitment, devotion and continued service to the school.  The school’s board of directors will also recognize Naomi Cohen, the recipient of the Gerald and Paula Steinberg Community Service Award, and acknowledge teacher Julie Wilkins, for 18 years of service at the school.

Co-chaired by Lauren Eisen, Lisa Fishman and Jessica Zachs, the event will celebrate the school’s excellence in education and raise funds to support tuition assistance to families demonstrating need.

“I am thrilled to be co-chairing our scholarship event this year with Jessica Zachs and Lisa Fishman,” said Lauren Eisen.   “As a Schechter graduate myself and a parent of two students at Schechter, I understand the importance of a Jewish Day School education. The current economic climate has increased the need for tuition assistance.  Now, more than ever SSDS needs significant support," she added.

“Solomon Schechter Day School depends on the generous support of the entire Jewish and Hartford community to make an excellent education available to all of our students,” said Jayne Rotter, Schechter’s Director of Development. “Tuition covers only part of the cost of a Jewish education and many of our students receive tuition assistance. We want to thank our kind supporters for making this possible.”
