Schools

Waterfest 2012

A new class, entitled Global Problem Solving, was piloted at Hall High School this year.  In this course, students have learned different forms of thinking that will help them to think logically and systemically about problems, both big and small.  As a class, the group decided to take on the global water crisis.  As students began to tackle this issue, one group decided to focus on the issue of water equity and human rights.  Through research and investigation about this pressing issue, the group learned a great deal about clean water.

After two months of preliminary research, the group decided to form a plan of action.  They decided to host a benefit concert at the 4H Auer Farm in Bloomfield in order to raise $5,000.  The event is this coming Saturday, June 16th, from 3-8pm and tickets are currently being sold for $15.  All proceeds from the concert and ticket sales go to the non-profit “charity: water”.  This money will sponsor the construction of a well in a country lacking the necessary clean water for survival.

The concert’s line-up consists of 5 local and regional bands, including: Sidewalk Chalk, a hip-hop/jazz fusion group from Chicago, Kalob Griffin Band, a folk ensemble from Philadelphia, Poor Old Shine, a Folk group from UCONN, Weather The Moon, a ska band from Hall and lastly The Flightless, a rock band founded by a group of Conard students.  Each one of these bands brings something new and different to the table, ensuring that the event will have an appeal for everyone.  More information about the event is located on the Water Equity Facebook page.
