'Grease' Is the Word at Sedgwick Middle School

Sedgwick Drama Club performances are this weekend.

The Drama Club musical has been a spring highlight in town for decades, and this year's production of "Grease: School Version," will not disappoint what will surely be a sold-out audience.

Most adults and teens already know the story, but Director John Tracey assures families that the school version is "wholesome family entertainment – appropriate for all ages."

Sedgwick's version of "Grease" is double cast, and the production involves more than 10 percent of the school in either the cast or crew. Gabe Turco and Gerson Echevarria share the role of Danny, and Molly Menner and Carlie Musto play Sandy.

At least seven staff members make cameo appearances, and three female staff members share the role of Cha-Cha. Principal Ben Skaught, Assistant Principal Neela Thakur, and science teacher Jas Singh do voice overs.

The audience will enjoy the set, which is highlighted by an actual vintage 1953 Dodge (sans engine), which has been specially adapted to be split in half for the drive-in scene.

"All of the songs are included, but the original writers changed some of the words for the school version," Tracey explained. The plot has also been altered slightly, with Rizzo's pregnancy scare replaced by an illness.
