Hall Boys Lacrosse Raises Funds for 'Sticks for Soldiers'

Annual event is fundraiser for disabled young veterans.

West Hartford's Hall High School boys lacrosse team recently participated in the annual Sticks for Soldiers Thanksgiving Lacrosse Classic in Fairfield.

Hall seniors George Witter and Trey Lerner spearheaded the team's participation in the fundraiser, which was held on Saturday, Nov. 24. This is the fourth consecutive year that Hall has participated in the event at Fairfield Ludlow High School.

Sticks for Soldiers, a fundraising event for disabled young veterans, raised $64,000 this year. According to the organization's website, this years' charity lacrosse tournament honored and supported two Connecticut soldiers – US Army Captain Greg Galeazzi of Glastonbury and USMC Sgt. Greg Caron of Ellington. Both are recovering from bi-lateral leg amputations and other critical injuries received in Afghanistan in 2011.

According to Hall head lacrosse coach Phil Orzech, “George and Trey handled all of the fundraising and organized the trip down to Fairfield. George and Trey, and all the boys that participated, should be given credit for their efforts. Again, this makes me very proud of the young men of Hall Lacrosse.”
