Ashwini Joshi honored at Governor's Scholars Luncheon.

Ashwini Joshi, a junior at was among 30 students in the state recognized on Thursday at the 2012 Governor’s Scholars Luncheon at the Aqua Turf in Southington.

The Connecticut Association of Schools and Big Y World Class Markets sponsor the program, which is in its 16th year. The purpose of the program is to recognize academically talented high school students in schools throughout the state and present 30 students for special recognition to the Governor of Connecticut.

All principals of CAS member high schools are given the opportunity to nominate one junior ranked in the top five percent of his/her class. An essay on assigned topic is completed. This year’s question was “What dangers do societies face when there is a dependence on media and technology rather than face to face contact as a means of communication?” Members of the Governor’s Scholars Committee, professional educators from throughout Connecticut, judge the completed applications assign a composite score to rank each in class, PSAT or SAT scores, CAPT scores, and the student essay.
