Hall High School Officially Dedicates Community Garden

Students in Liz Devine's Global Problem Solving class officially dedicated their community garden Wednesday morning.

Lettuce is already growing well in the courtyard garden at the West Hartford school. According to Devine, "all of the vegetables and herbs will be used in the cafeteria and Mise en Place." Perennials will be added as well, so they can be shared with Media Specialist Gayle Koffi who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Other classes have gotten involved in the project as well, and are being encouraged to compost, plant, create garden markers, and water and assist in maintenance of the garden.

The community garden is just one project undertaken by the Global Problem Solving class which this year has been studying the issue of "food."

In January the class hosted a "Breaking Bread" Farm to Table dinner, and are continuing to raiser funds for a "garden hoop house" on the grounds of the Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. They will also host a Mother's Day plant sale this month and a Farmer's Market on June 15.
