Hall Student Recognized as Semifinalist in National Scholarship Program

Program recognizes high school juniors around the country for high PSAT scores.

A West Hartford student has been named a semifinalist in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program, according to a release from Hall High School.

Sol-Atiya Galvan is a student at Hall and has been recognized by the scholarship program for high PSAT scores. The program is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. 

The program was initiated in 1964 to recognize academically promising black students throughout the nation and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants, according to the release.

Sol-Atiya Galvan is one of 1,600 students named semifinalists of more than 160,000 high school juniors from all over the United States who requested consideration in the program when they took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). 

Semifinalists are designated within geographic regions and are the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that make up each region.
