Saluting Our Veterans – 7th Grade Style

'Actions speak louder than words!' for these Sedgwick Middle School students.

This time of year he focuses on the history of Memorial Day and honoring veterans. But he doesn't just teach this lesson through lecturing. Tracey's students come to learn that actions speak louder than words.

Students were directed to write a persuasive essay stating why they should be selected to go to Fairview Cemetery for a special Memorial Day project. The “chosen few” of 30 students traveled to the cemetery on foot the Friday before Memorial Day.

Their task was to search and locate veterans’ graves “off the beaten path” and plant a flag to honor these local American heroes.

This annual tradition certainly illustrates that “history is alive and well at Sedgwick Middle School!”
