Sports Images: Hall Girls Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat Conard

As expected, perennial cross-town rivals put on another display for the history books.

Prior to the game between the (11-3) and (7-7-1) girls lacrosse programs, most would have been confident that a Hall victory would result.

However, this was Conard's Senior Day – a day that would mark the last regular season game of 13 teammates' high school careers.

From the very start the Warriors wasted no time displaying their dominance as sophomore Alannah Boyal scored the first of her five goals just 30 seconds into the contest. The Conard offense quicky answered with the next two goals of the game, led by senior Taylor Schumann.

In the next three minutes, Hall put up four straight goals to retake the lead at 5-2. Not willing to give up, the Chieftain defense was able to hold the Warriors to just three goals in the remaining 13 minutes of the first half, while adding another six goals of their own. At the half, the teams found themselves deadlocked 8-8.

The second half became a game within a game. It took three minutes before either team could find the back of the cage. Surprisingly, it was Schumann who was able to strike first, scoring her fourth goal of the game to once again give Conard the lead.

Eleven seconds after a Hall timeout, Conard's Margo McDonough notched her second goal of the game, extending the lead to 10-8.

Goals by sophomore Molly Vossler and senior Lily Cannon gave the Chieftains their largest lead of the game, 12-6, with 15:18 remaining.

Those last 15 minutes became a demonstration the way Hall has dominated nearly all of their opponents this season. With senior Alannah Boyle scoring her fourth and fifth goals (tying the game at 13) and outstanding goaltending by sophomore Madison Hooper, the Warriors went on to outscore Conard 7-1 during that 15 minutes.

Finishing with five unanswered goals, Hall claimed the victory by a final score of 15-13.

Conard (7-8-1) awaits their tournament destiny, as the final conference games are left to be played this week. With their record now 12-3, Hall is ensured a first-round home field game on Thursday, May 31 at 5:00 p.m.
